In a remote field, a 2-year-old lurcher was found tied to a metal post along with her six newborn puppies. The mother, with no access to food or water, struggled to care for her young while restrained by a tight collar.
On November 6th, a passerby discovered the dog and her pups in a field near the village of Elphin, as reported by the Irish Times. Assistance was quickly sought, and the canine family was brought under the care of the Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ISPCA).
Hugh O’Toole, the ISPCA manager, expressed deep concern over the neglect faced by the young dog and her puppies, emphasizing the grave risk posed to their lives by leaving them abandoned in such dire conditions.
Despite its limited resources, the ISPCA took in the mother and her puppies, providing them with medical attention at its facility in County Longford. Although they did not suffer severe physical injuries, they had to endure a period of hunger and cold that could have ended tragically without timely intervention.
